Comment of the Week

Each Thursday we ask you a question, and on Saturday we pick the author of our favorite answer to win a prize from THE VAULT as a thank you for participating.

This week's winner, who told us about the way music inspires her writing, is . . .

J Larkin!

Mine is easy! Parov Stelar, an Austrian musician who is largely considered to be the inventor of electro-swing. Many of his songs take clips from the music of the 20's-40's, and he gives them a good old shot with a musical defibrillator.
My favorite of his songs, and the one that really pinned down the feel of my first book: Chambermaid Swing. My book takes place in the 30's, but in an alternate world where magic exists and blends into the night clubs and back alley deals. Parov Stelar's meshing of something old and classic with something new and unnatural fit along perfectly with what I was going for.

You had me at "a blending of something old and classic with something new and unnatural." And now I'm off to download a sample of this "electro-swing" music!

Thanks, J! Send us an email to claim your prize!

Make sure to say hello to J on twitter, @skeletonskeys, and her blog, By Any Other Name!

And thanks to everyone who participated this week! And check back next Thursday for another chance to win some fab stuff from The Vault!
